Sitka Spruce is a coniferous tree known to be one of the tallest in the world - reaching over 300 feet - and living for over 700 years. She is associated with birth, resilience, protection, and eternal life in ancient mythology. Native Americans considered her a symbol of the sky and guardian of the North. Fallen Sitka Spruce trees create nourishment for the soil and fertile ground for seeds to grow. They are known as "nursery logs", and they support the natural regeneration process. This is why these trees are known as "Mother Trees" and the female guardians and protectors of the forest.
Sitka Spruce is good for cuts, wound healing, infections, boils, and other skin afflictions. She is a respiratory aid that helps ease a cough, common cold, congestion, and bronchitis. A natural pain reliever, Sitka Spruce helps with inflammation and muscle aches, and she is good for arthritis and rheumatism. Her natural oil is high in vitamin C and can help to boost immunity.
Energetically, Sitka Spruce helps to open the heart and heal grief and emotional pain. She is grounding, stabilizing, and balancing, and is wonderful medicine for anxiety and emotional disharmonies. Sitka Spruce is a ceremonial medicine used to purify the spirit and connect with one's ancestors. She is burned as an incense to ward off lower frequencies and negative energies, and protect the space from dark forces. This tree is used during transformational times and sacred rites of passage, and is known to help heighten one's spiritual vision and energetic frequency.
