The heartwood of a tree is the part in the middle of the trunk that is steam distilled after the tree has been cut down and killed. Once the heartwood has been cut, there is no way to salvage the tree. This means that the tree has to sacrifice its life in order for others to receive its medicine. To grow and become strong in order to transition so that others can benefit from your strength is the ultimate sacrifice of a tree. The following heartwood essences bless us and the spiritual work that we do, and we would like to take this time to honor the souls of our beautiful Buddha Wood, Palo Santo, and Australian Sandalwood.
Buddha Wood is a small tree from Australia whose Latin name comes from the Greek word meaning "desert love". She is resilient, strong, and thrives in conditions that most trees and plants would die in. This is why her heartwood is a great medicinal teacher of inner strength, personal power, and inner peace. Buddha Wood is an immune system booster that addresses virus', a fever, staph infections, and even salmonella poisoning. She helps the body heal itself of pain and arthritic conditions, and addresses kidney and pancreatic health. Energetically, Buddha Wood is a meditative aid that supports healing grief, loss, sorrow, anxiety, and stress.
Palo Santo is an aromatic tree from South America who is part of the torchwood family with Frankincense and Myrrh. The heartwood of this tree is harvested off of the forest floor. Only the dead wood is collected, and it must be allowed to die naturally and lay on the forest floor to decay so that the resins can migrate to the heartwood and the oils are developed properly. This is why Palo Santo is a sustainable and incredibly powerful source of plant medicine. Palo Santo is an immune system booster that is anti-viral and anti-infection. She addresses the common cold, flu, lung conditions, inflammation, circulation, insomnia, and muscle and joint pain. As a meditative aid, Palo Santo helps to clear negative energies from a space, uplift the mood, relieve stress, and inspire creativity.
Australian Sandalwood is a small, tropical tree whose Latin name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "wood for burning incense". She has been used in religious and spiritual ceremonies and meditations since the early 1800's because of her gifts of encouraging calmness and creativity. Sandalwood has a myriad of gifts to share from being anti-fungal to helping UTI's, and kidney and bladder inflammation. She has been historically used for reproductive health and protection, both harmonizing sex hormones, reproductive cells, and genital diseases, and warding away rape or any form of a sexual abuse. She helps with pain, wound healing, heart circulation, throat issues, and digestive disharmonies. Energetically, Sandalwood is an anti-depressant that helps anxiety, fear, and feeling more comfortable in one's skin. She helps us listen to ourselves, let go of inner and outer criticism, and release our inner blocks.
We are grateful to be able to receive the gifts of these three amazing trees and all of the plants that sacrifice their lives for us to receive their medicine. Each essence can be anointed "neat" over the heart, onto the 3rd eye, nape of the neck, bottoms of the feet, or wherever we feel intuitively guided to anoint at the time of usage. Five to ten drops of each, depending on where it is being anointed, is a good start. These heartwood healers go straight to the heart of what is causing the dis-ease. Use with intention, prayer, and Love.
