RaMa Mama Doula Share: Unveiling the Mystery of Yoni Eggs...

Yoni Eggs are crystal minerals molded into the form of an egg, and are inserted into a woman's vagina in order to help improve the tone of the pelvic floor muscles. Some women seek help from Yoni Egg exercises (contracting and releasing the muscles while it is inserted in the vagina) in order to help improve sexual function, pleasure, and intimate connection to their bodies. Other women use these exercises to help them with incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and bladder/bowel control. Some professionals say that Kegel exercises are safer and more effective in strengthening the pelvic floor, but others believe Yoni Eggs are a better choice. There is not enough research done scientifically to support Yoni Eggs, but they seem to be more popular in the Holistic Health field than the Medical field.

Women who enjoy using Yoni Eggs report that their sensitivity and pleasure during intercourse have improved due to better muscle tone and blood flow in the area. Others have reported an increase in natural vaginal lubrication. Some users have said that their urinary incontinence has greatly improved, while many women have agreed that the Yoni Egg has improved their relationship to their bodies and connection to their pelvic muscles. It is said that regular use supports a rise in self-esteem and body positivity, as well as an increase in creativity, fertility, and self-nurturing behavior.

Just as there are many wonderful benefits, there are a few things to consider when using a Yoni Egg. To begin with, what kind of element are you using with the egg of your choice? Is the egg itself made of a porous material (like Jade, Agate, Onyx, Malachite, Amber, or Lapis) or is it impenetrable (like Amethyst, Quartz, Citrine, or Sapphire)? Research has shown that yoni eggs that are made from a porous material can make women more at risk of infection. It is harder to keep these clean because bacteria can get trapped in the egg. The other issue with Yoni Eggs is that there is such a thing as overdoing it. If you do too much strengthening of the pelvic floor, or leave the egg in too long (or even overnight), it can actually cause painful sex or dryness. Excess can work against you in this case. It is advised to seek guidance from a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist to find out if you can benefit from this practice. All bodies are different and one solution doesn't work for everyone.

According to doctors, if you have constipation problems, bladder issues, painful intercourse, issues having an orgasm, low back/hip pain, or abdomen pain, the Yoni Egg might not be the best choice for you. Also, if there has been a medical diagnosis of pregnancy, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, UTI, Bacterial Vaginitis, or Thrush, it is definitely not advised. The little research that has been done on Yoni Eggs tells that they have some benefits, but are not a cure for Pelvic Floor problems or sexual dysfunction.
