The elderly are the most sacred teachers of wisdom, the storytellers of our history, and the keepers of our human library of experiences. When they pass on, they take with them chapters of Truths that hold the keys to understanding what has come before us and what is repeating in front of us now.
In this time of human history, the elderly are oftentimes forgotten. Life is fast-moving, and people resist slowing down long enough to check in with elderly friends and family members. We do all that we can to remain youthful, discrediting the natural and beautiful evolution of our faces and bodies that help tell the story of our evolution. Every wrinkle is an experience, and when we smile later in life, we hold all of the happiness of a lifetime in one expression. Instead of running away from the aging process, we can embrace it and own it as a symbol of resilience, strength, and longevity. Getting older is a superpower that doesn't show up in physical strength, but in the ability to see the Truth and live in Truth.
Just like Birth Doulas help to usher in new life with families during childbirth, caregivers offer the same services during the sacred transition back to the Light. It is the completion to the circle of life in our family lineages, as we were cared for at the seed of life and can give that care back as the fruits of those seeds. Whatever the relationship may be, there are most likely healing opportunities available. A lot of the wounds and traumatic events we have experienced began many generations ago. Having conversations and revealing these Truths can be extremely healing. When we return our Loved ones to the Earth, we can also bury the painful stories and experiences that no longer have power over the family line. Caring for the elderly offers deeper healing and insight into our ancestral past. It helps to reconcile what has happened before us in order to embrace where we are headed.
Instead of isolation, the elderly need community and support around them. They thrive in group settings where they can share their wisdom, have a purpose, feel wanted, and be seen. It is too easy to slowly fade away and disappear when the people closest to us have all passed away and our physical strength and mobility slow down. Just because it may seem easier, doesn't make it right. It takes a village to become a community that supports both its youth and its elderly. We have the ability to come together to help all those in need of care. These are the most vulnerable times of our lives, and oftentimes requires care as a necessity and not just a luxury.
Caring for one another and our elders is a sacred service that restores the balance of giving and receiving. From dawn to dusk, or womb to tomb, we have value, purpose, Love, and gifts to share. The elderly have earned the reverence they deserve for the lives they have lived. At the end of their lives, they should be honored, nurtured, and cared for. It is considered to be a great honor to care for our elderly family members who have given us so much. As a sacred ritual of life, it is a time of slowing down, grounding into the gift of the breath, and reminding one another how important it is to stay present in the moment. Love is the Justice we seek at the end of life. May the blessings circle around to all of our elders so they can feel the Love return to them from their lifetime of service to humanity.
