Spiritual people sometimes use big words that feel like they have great importance, and sometimes they speak in a language that they themselves don't understand completely. Let's break down some of the terms used to describe what we feel and experience from sound healing. What is the difference between Vibration, Frequency, Energy, and Resonance?
First, there is vibration. Vibration is motion that repeats back and forth continuously. Just about everything vibrates under the right conditions.
Then there is frequency. Frequency is how often and how fast the motion repeats or oscillates. Frequency is measured in hertz (Hz), and one hertz is equal to one cycle per second. One complete cycle involves going forward, backward, and then forward again.
Energy is the ability to cause change or do work. It is a property of a system that describes its capacity to produce changes like movement, heat, Light, sound, and shape. Energy is what makes the vibration possible and able to transfer from one thing to another. It has the capacity to allow the motion to occur and produce changes in other things. Finally, resonance has to do with the transfer of energy and the timing in which the rhythms of two systems naturally match. When frequencies match, it adds to the energy at just the right time. Resonance is a special condition in which vibrations become much stronger because the frequencies of two energies match. Together, we can look at these forces in this way... Something vibrates, the vibration has a frequency, the vibration carries or transfers energy, and when there is another object with the same natural frequency, the vibration becomes stronger and stronger.
When looking at sound, we can observe these elements working together. When we sing, our vocal cords vibrate and the rate of vibration determines the pitch, the air in the lungs provide the energy for the sound, and the throat, mouth, and nasal cavities resonate in order to amplify the frequencies and give every voice its unique sound. By singing together and harmonizing with one another, we can create even more complex frequencies. We can look at this same pattern in musical instruments, electronics, earthquakes and other natural forces, and many other things on planet Earth. These forces all work together magically to help us experience the world in deeply powerful ways.
Vibration, frequency, energy, and resonance are all very different, but they relate to one another and work together as one. We may not always be able to identify what we are hearing, but we can feel it all in our being. When it resonates in a powerful way, we understand how profound it is and how these forces can work together to transform us in deep and miraculous ways.
