Sound & Vibrational Healing: Why Is Chanting Mantra So Healing?...
People have been chanting sacred sounds since the beginning of time. The ancient ones used to sit in caves and chant for hours. This was the way they could connect with spirit, receive messages, and tune into higher wisdom. Mantras were understood to carry spiritual power, higher consciousness, and the vibratory frequency that can bring peace, expansion, and emotional Lightness. This is all beautiful and wonderful, but what does the research say about the physical healing gained from chanting mantra?
When we chant mantra, we have to take a deep breath that lasts long enough to get through the phrase. This allows us to regulate our breath, which in turn will help to regulate the mind and our thoughts. Part of this practice is learning how to strengthen our focus, sit still for long periods of time, and direct our attention to the present moment. It's also about being consistent by showing up for meditation each day at the same time for the same practice. When done correctly, we can shift our nervous system toward parasympathetic relaxation, and quiet the mental chatter that once dominated the mind. Chanting mantra helps to strengthen our voices and energetic projections, clearing the ear/nose/throat, and helping to bring healing vibrations to the skull, the brain, and the Crown Chakra. The nervous system is our bridge between the physical and spiritual worlds. Chanting mantra helps to awaken the vagus nerve, regulate the heart, and allow the Kundalini to rise for a deep and profound spiritual awakening. Specific mantras, like "RaMaDaSa", have been scientifically proven to heal when using Pachelbel's Cannon in D. Stress, anxiety, and cardiovascular issues can be addressed with this specific recipe.
Hindus practice mantra with "japa", or repetition. They practice aloud, silently, whispering, and sometimes with a mala to help count 108 rounds. Tibetan Buddhist chanting uses long, low, rhythmic, repetitive, and sometimes throaty sounds. Harmonics play a part in their group chants as well. Himalayan Buddhists practice low pitches with long, sustained, controlled breaths. Gregorian Chanting combines prayer, mantra, meditation, and music along with melodic movement to create the vibration. The Sutras are long texts of prayers chanted repetitively and melodically with the breath synchronized together as a group. Sufi chanting also uses repetition and movement, repeating Divine names and prayerful phrases as a group. Temple/Church chanting, like that which is practiced by Jews and Christians, also uses repetition, prayers, and sometimes the Rosary (much like the mala) to help count prayers. Other groups, like indigenous cultures and Shamans, use drumming, repetition, breath, movement, and sometimes call and response (like in Kirtan) to vibrate healing sounds. Every culture, religion, and spiritual group uses sound to connect with the Divine and transmute energy. Creating music, sound, songs, and vibrations together as people is one of the most ancient, natural, and healing things we can do.
The mantras themselves work on the body through reflex points in the mouth as well as through the vibration of the cells, bones, and tissues. When we say specific words, the tongue hits specific reflex points on the roof of the mouth that bring healing and high frequency tuning to the brain. The Pituitary Gland and Pineal Gland are activated and the higher chakras are stimulated. These glands affect our hormones, and the quality of our mind and thoughts. Each mantra holds the key to unlocking the healing benefits and spiritual gifts that all people who have chanted that mantra have received since the beginning of time. Recorded history has proven that these vibrations to help shift the mind, which then help to shift our reality. With consciousness, intention, focus, and accuracy, each mantra, coupled with mudra therapy, has the power to bring transformational shifts and long-lasting healing benefits to the mind, thoughts, perceptions, beliefs, and feelings that have been hardwired into us throughout this lifetime. Chanting is another form of sound healing that works with our own voices from the inside out. It is one of the most healing ways to access vibration, and it's free!
