Everything that exists has a reason and a purpose. Even the things that we perceive to be horrible exist to teach us and help us grow in deep and meaningful ways. AI seemed to have manifested and taken off so quickly that a lot of people were left wondering what was happening to the world we once knew so well. The most consistent thing in life that we can all count on is change. A new invention, a more efficient way of doing things, or a shift in global priorities can move humans in new directions that open doors to new realities. There was a first light bulb, bicycle, car, airplane, etc. and we once believed that was going to destroy our world and change things for the worse. So why does AI feel so different now?
Light bulbs and automobiles are physical things that have helped us shift the way we live and move around in the world. AI is a tool that affects our mental and emotional worlds. It serves to change the way that we research information, create projects, work each day, and identify as people. It is not something we can see or physically experience, but it affects everything that we experience because all people are using it in one way or another. As a matter of fact, most of us have no idea that we are using it most of the time. There is a very blurred line between what is original and what is copied from AI, and that means that the differences between machine-made and human-made creations - from music and novels to law cases and journalism - are now unidentifiable. The questions around our authenticity and the values, principles, and ethics that our work is built upon are all on the table. On one side of the coin, more access to information and content offers us all more authentic transparency, and on the other side of the coin, it can become easier to stop using our brains and our own intuitive processes to create original work. It can also become easier to learn how to implement catastrophic creations that have the power to destroy humanity. AI can literally put an exclamation point on our human qualities, making both the good and the bad louder and brighter to hear and see. As it rolls out, humans are the ones that are planting the seeds that will grow it's future. We get to decide what kind of reality we wish to create, and how we want to grow with the support of modern technology.
There are no guarantees that AI won't turn into something very dark and destructive, and there are no limits to the good that it can do as well. That is why we have created laws, standards, and safeguards for new inventions in the past. Our human values are most important in moving forward because we are the ones to hold one another accountable and create the needed oversight and limitations that keep us safe and help to reduce the risk of nefarious activity. AI is being created by millions of people everyday and is guided by our collective decisions to solve problems, create magical discoveries, and build amazing inventions that can make life easier for all living beings. We get to decide if AI will be a tool for surveillance, warfare, and misinformation, or if it will be used to find cures to diseases, new ways to teach and educate people, and better ways to govern people with the highest ethics and values.
Nature exists to create balance. When we have found ourselves in extremes on either end of the spectrum, we are naturally attuned to re-establishing harmony once again. Whatever we create with AI, history shows we will eventually find harmony with it. New things can feel scary, and this new "thing" is very intelligent and more advanced than most humans can be. That can create more fear than we can understand how to deal with. What if AI can write better poems than we can? What if it can create better music than humans? Instead of thinking this way, we can maybe look at this all with different eyes. Humans have the gift of consciousness. We are able to bear witness to our living experiences, to share our hearts with one another in both empathy and compassion, to create relationships with one another, to express our Love, and to share kindness. Maybe the technical aspects of our creations can be mastered by AI, but it cannot make decisions on what is most important to focus on, what to regulate, what to teach, what stories to tell, how much time we spend with technology, or where we direct our energies every day. Just like a very old tree, we can root into the Earth Mother, watch all of the shifts and changes on the planet, and yet, continue to reach toward the Light, to elevate, and to rise in connection and in harmony with other forms of life. Modern technology will never be able to replace who we are as people and what is most important to us. The more we address the topics that hold the most meaning to us as beings, the closer we will get to being more present, more compassionate, more discerning, more courageous, and more connected to the multiverse and to each other. This is why it is so important to ask questions, to feel into our hearts, and to make decisions that can help us all grow inwardly and outwardly together. No matter what the invention may be, we always have the choice to bring Love into it or to be guided by the ego. Either way, nature will help us return to the center because the natural flow of life is what has kept this planet alive for billions of years, and it will help us thrive for billions more.
