Honey Myrtle is an Australian paperbark shrub that is part of the Tea Tree family. She grows in swampy areas with sand or clay as soil. The Latin name comes from a Greek word "melas leukos", meaning "black white" or "dark and light". This is indicative of the healing benefits that Honey Myrtle offers in moving from darkness to Light, or duality to unity within ourselves. Indigenous Australians used Honey Myrtle in medicinal washes, poultices, and cleansing rituals. She was also used in making shelter and bedding, and for protection and emotional healing.
Honey Myrtle is anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial. She helps with inflammation and muscle tension, and she serves as an excellent sedative. She treats minor skin infections, acne, cuts, eczema, psoriasis, and burns as a natural cell regenerator. Honey Myrtle addresses MRSA and staph infections. She is also wonderful for the lungs, bronchitis, and congestion.
Energetically, Honey Myrtle supports our resilient, adaptable, and intuitive self. She helps us create healthy boundaries, she offers protection, and she helps us create a feeling of calm alertness. Honey Myrtle addresses depression, anxiety, and recovering after hardship.
