Sound & Vibrational Healing: What Is Vibroacoustic Therapy and How Does It Work?...

In Scandinavia (specifically Sweden and Finland) during the 1950's-1960's, researchers were testing low-frequency sound waves and how they influenced the human body. By using music and physical vibration, they were able to soothe the nervous system, reduce pain, help anxiety, and improve chronic conditions.

In Vibroacoustic Therapy, specialized equipment is used to convert sound waves into mechanical vibrations. It uses rapid miniscule oscillations to help physical and mental health issues resolve. These low-frequency sound waves move through the body tissues successfully because the body is made up mostly of water. It creates the environment for cellular repair and overall relaxation. These vibrations are paired with calming music, which brings rhythm, tone, and harmony that bring the body into an even deeper relaxed state. The body loves rhythm, as it is always vibrating and beating to its own drum. It can affect our heart rate, blood pressure, muscle tension, blood flow, lymphatic flow, and mental health - among many other benefits. People who experience extreme anxiety and PTSD have reported great benefits from Vibroacoustic Therapy.

When receiving this form of therapy, the patient can either stand on a platform that vibrates or recline in a comfortable vibroacoustic bed. Each are equipped with transducers (devices that transform electric signals into motion or action) and speakers that play musical tones. For over 60 years, this form of vibrational healing has been proven scientifically to help regulate the nervous system, reduce pain and anxiety, and support emotional harmony and rehabilitation.

A daily 10 minute vibration protocol for 5 weeks proved to help improve brain functioning in aged rats in a January 2022 study from the journal Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience. In July of 2022, an artical in the Oman Medical Journal stated that whole body vibrational treatment showed "significant improvement" in depression, stress, energy, and emotional wellness. In May of 2023, a study in the journal AIMS Neuroscience shared that whole body vibration therapy had a "high potential" for positive interference in improving cognitive abilities in both healthy and imbalanced individuals. Overall, the studies over the years have proven that physical vibration with sound healing together can treat the following dis-eases:

  • Chronic Pain

  • Lower Back Pain

  • Parkinson's Disease

  • Sciatica

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Overweight and obesity

  • Diminished Flexibility

  • Age-Related Bone Density Loss

  • Poor Circulation

  • Diminished Muscle Mass

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • Stress

  • ADD/ADHD

  • PTSD

  • Addiction

Over the years, the Vibroacoustic equipment has grown to be more sophisticated and helpful. There are transducer mats, chairs, and beds to choose from that are tunable to frequencies between 20 and 120 hertz. Children with neurological conditions and elderly folks with sensory and/or mobility issues have been greatly benefitting from Vibroacoustic Therapies. As gentle as they are physical, they are extremely powerful energetically. Today, this technique is being used in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and rehab centers all over the world. New clinical studies are focused on how this therapy can help people who have had a stroke, cerebral palsy, are autistic, experience chronic pain, or are trying to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.
