Mudra of the Month: Mudra to Dispel Negativity & Move Blocks...

It's March, the third month of the year, and Jupiter shows up to teach us about healthy boundaries, justice, prosperity, and expansion. Jupiter is the planet of spiritual and material abundance, or it can be the exact opposite. Whatever we believe to be true becomes our reality. When Jupiter arrives, we are reminded to be grateful for what we have, and give back to others who have less than we do. Jupiter rules over the digestive system and our relationship with food. It can bring up our issues with processing nourishment in our lives as well as the gut.


In order to embody our creative, abundant, and expansive selves, we have to ward away negativity and darkness. The mudra to dispel the shadows pushes away dark energies in order to make space for the Light. This mudra also helps to clear blockages in the gut. When we are constipated, this hand posture can help with peristalsis to get the bowls moving once again. By bringing down the middle and ring fingers with the thumb over the nail, we are decreasing the energies of Saturn and the Sun. This helps us to stop the karmic flow and regulate the three heating chambers in the being. Extending the index finger and pinky helps to stimulate and activate the large and small intestines and support a healthy gut.


Here Is How To Perform This Mudra:

  1. Straighten the spine in a comfortable posture sitting, standing, or laying down.

  2. Bend down the middle and ring fingers, while extending the index and pinky fingers straight on both hands.

  3. Place the thumb over the nails of the middle and ring fingers on both hands.

  4. Place the palms on the knees face up, relax, and either practice 3-part breath or chant RaMaDaSa for healing.

  5. Sit up tall, relax the shoulders down and back, and hold the mudra for 3 - 11 minutes.


3-Point Breath:

Inhale for a count of 20, Hold the breath for a count of 20, Exhale for a count of 20. Repeat this breath for 3 - 11 minutes to calm the mind and bring balance to the brain.
